Fall is often one of the best times to travel. The crowds characteristic of summer are no longer there, and there's a certain magic in the air, whether it be the golden foliage of New England, or the warm Mediterranean sun. If you're thinking about where to go this fall, here are my top picks for the best travel destinations in Fall 2026.

  1. Rome, Italy

Fall is arguably the best time of year to visit Rome due to the cooler temperatures, fewer tourists, and perfect lighting that makes every cobblestone look like a painting. Spend your days tossing a coin into the Trevi Fountain, touring the Vatican, and wandering through the Collosseum. Trust me, Rome is the fall is amazing.

  2. Prague, Czechia

If you haven't been to Prague yet, fall 2026 is your sign to go. One of Europe's most beautifully preserved cities, Prague is a fairy-tale destination of Gothic architecture, cobblestone streets, and stunning bridges over the Vltava River. Fall brings cooler weather, smaller crowds, and a cozy atmosphere perfect for exploring the city's historic Old Town, sampling hearty Czech cuisine, and warming up with a glass of mulled wine. It's also one of the more affordable European capitals, making it a fantastic value.

  3. Tokyo, Japan

Fall in Tokyo is absolutely breathtaking. The city's parks and gardens transform into a sea of red, orange, and gold during koyo (autumn leaf season), typically peaking in November. Beyond the foliage, Tokyo is a city unlike any other — a dizzying blend of ancient temples, futuristic technology, world-class cuisine, and some of the friendliest locals you'll ever meet. Whether you're exploring the traditional streets of Asakusa or shopping in Shibuya, Tokyo never disappoints.

  4. Asheville, North Carolina

For those looking to stay stateside, Asheville is one of the most stunning fall destinations in the country. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville is surrounded by some of the most spectacular fall foliage in the U.S. Drive the iconic Blue Ridge Parkway, explore the grand Biltmore Estate, wander through the city's thriving arts district, and dig into an incredible food and craft beer scene. It's a perfect long weekend getaway that feels like so much more.
